Charles D’Oyly Promoted
Valassis creates a new role to focus on emerging opportunities in Europe as the use of coupons continues to grow
26th August Valassis today announced that Charles D’Oyly, managing director of Valassis Ltd, has been promoted to managing director of Valassis Europe. The expanded role will see D’Oyly develop emerging opportunities identified within Europe. At the same time he will continue to manage the UK business.
D’Oyly was appointed managing director of Valassis Ltd in January 2006, and has successfully developed the business as the UK’s leading coupon and voucher services provider.
Brian Husselbee, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCH, Valassis Ltd’s parent company, says, “I am delighted to announce the promotion of Charles D’Oyly to the position of Managing Director of Valassis Europe. Charles is a highly valued member of the senior management team and his promotion is very well deserved. This new role recognises the significant opportunities seen by Valassis to grow its European businesses, and the importance of focussing resources on a number of key projects. Charles’ knowledge and experience of the European markets will ensure that our businesses there continue to move rapidly from strength to strength.”
D’Oyly says, “I am delighted to be given this opportunity and I look forward to applying my knowledge and experience to a number of exciting new opportunities for Valassis.”
This appointment comes at a time when Valassis, as a global company, reports that consumers around the world are more actively seeking coupons due to the current economic conditions, and as a result of this, Valassis has seen brands use coupons more as well as an increase in the number of brands deciding to use coupons for the first time.
In Europe, Spain recorded an 8% growth in coupon distributions in 2008 compared with 2007. Germany, which is a new market to the coupon industry, saw a massive 40% growth in the same period. Italy recorded a 6% growth in coupon redemptions in the first quarter of 2009 versus the same period last year, with a 12% increase in the number of new manufacturers planning to use coupons within their own consumer/trade promotions.
